How To Make A Watercolour Spotlight Birthday Card – Technique Tuesday

Apr 2, 2024 | Birthdays, Blog Hop, Techniques

Welcome to the Crafty Collaborations blog hop. I am part of an amazing group of demonstrators from all around the world. We love showcasing the wonderful products which can found in our suite of catalogues. This month we are sharing projects using the spotlight technique. I’m delighted to share my Watercolour Spotlight Birthday Card.

Spotlight technique

The spotlight technique is a fun colouring technique to bring attention to a focal point on your card.

The way we are using this today is to die cut a shape from a piece of cardstock to create a ‘window’ and then use a coordinating piece of card to pop up the coloured central piece.

Watercolour spotlight Birthday Card

I made this card on my twice weekly Connect-Craft-Chat Facebook live session yesterday.

This week I am featuring the very stunning Magnolia Mood Stamps Set which is available as part of the Online Exclusives range.

For this card, stamp the large floral image on two opposite corners using Pebbled Path Ink.

Take the fourth largest Deckled Edge Rectangle Die (which is thankfully not retiring this month, but moving to the Online Exclusive range too!

Take the central panel and colour/tint with watercolour pencils. To blend /soften the colour just use a Blender pen.

Mount the coloured layer onto the contrasting second layer of Berry Burst card.

Assemble the card mounting the central section on some Dimensionals to really help the spotlight pop.

Add a white heat embossed sentiment on a scrap of Berry Burst and adhere over a loop of ribbon

Finish with some Iridescent Rhinestone Gems

Measurements – Watercolour spotlight Birthday Card
