How To Make A Faux Letterpress Floral Card – Technique Tuesday

Jan 2, 2024 | Blog Hop, Christmas, Techniques

Welcome to the Crafty Collaborations blog hop. I am part of an amazing group of demonstrators from all around the world. We love showcasing the wonderful products which can found in our suite of catalogues. This month we are sharing techniques using a brayer. I’m delighted to share my Faux Letterpress Floral Card.

Faux Letterpress technique

I absolutely love letterpress. It has an ageless beauty and refined elegance about it. Its original use was for newspaper printing but nowadays you more often find it used in fine art or wedding stationery.

Put simply, letterpress printing is a form of relief printing, where the text or image is on a raised surface, similar to a rubber stamp. Ink is applied to the raised surface and then paper is pressed directly against it to transfer the text/image.

Now investing in a letterpress system is expensive in terms of money and space. Luckily there is a fabulous way to recreate this background using an embossing folder, a brayer and some ink.

  • Take the embossing folder and open up
  • Gently add the ink across the inside upper part of the embossing folder using the brayer
  • Lay your paper onto the bottom part of the embossing folder
  • Close and pop through your Cut & Emboss machine
  • Voila!

Faux Letterpress Floral Card

Today I am sharing a sneak peak of a stunning new Layered Florals 3D embossing folder that I just can’t stop using,

For this card add Blackberry bliss ink to the embossing folder and ‘faux letterpress’ onto a piece of Bubble bath card.

The faux letterpress piece is just too pretty to cover so making a feature panel is a perfect way to showcase the wonderful textures.

Add a simple sentiment with a a double bow of silver Simply Elegant trim behind

Finish with some Purple Fine Shimmer Gems.
