How to Make a Monochromatic Birthday Card – Casually Crafting Blog Hop

Dec 18, 2021 | Birthdays, Blog Hop

Welcome to our monthly Casually Crafting Blog Hop! and my Monochromatic Birthday Card.

Casually Crafting Design Team Blog Hop

The Casually Crafting Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world, gathered together to share our passion for creativity with you. Our focus is to bring you inspiration featuring projects that are easy to create while still packing a powerful creative punch. The projects are made with a few products, making them ideally suited to a beginner or casual crafter. From time-to-time, we may also include a project that is stepped-up for the added wow-factor

We will be sharing our ideas on the 3rd Saturday of each month and you can hop around the group and gather loads of inspiration. So grab yourself a cup of your favourite beverage, sit back & enjoy the hop!

Tic Tac Toe Challenge

This month we have a Tic Tac Toe challenge. Have you tried one? Pick a line horizontally, vertically or diagonally and use those elements to make your project. Don’t worry you can use other products, but these challenges are great for kickstarting your crafting session.

For my inspiration I chose to use the left three boxes:

  • White
  • Stripes
  • Black

However I realised it would also fit the criteria for the right Hand Column- Three/Birthday/Gold. What can I say, I liked this board!!

Blessings of home stamp set

Today I am using a new stamp set Blessings of Home. A beautiful set of detailed floral Cling stamps, which will be available 4th January from the upcoming Jan to Jun Mini Catalogue. It has already become a firm favourite.

It’s from a mega suite called Heart & Home and it’s totally adorable

I have been using it to make lots of projects whilst I am away in Southern Africa with my mini crafting stash. I still have lots of ideas with this set, so do check back in for more inspiration.

Monochromatic Birthday Card

Much as I love bold and bright cards I also like clean and simple monochromic cards. So this design was right up my street!

I’m pretty sure I have not just been influenced by the challenge, but also the large herds of Zebra we have seen of the last few days on our travels!

I used one of the shapes from the Watercolor Shapes Stamp Set to create the stripes. By using the Fluid 100 watercolor Card you create dome additional texture so the stripes look a little more distressed.

It’s an alternative version of this card I posted earlier in the week.

How to Make a Monochromatic Birthday Card

  • Take the Layer 1 piece of Basic White\& use a Basic Black Marker to add a fine layer of splatters.
  • Stamp the stripes onto the piece of Fluid 100 watercolor card
  • Wrap around some Gold simply Elegant trim in a bow & add to layer 1 with glue
  • Stamp the floral image twice in Tuxedo Memento Ink
  • Add some additional shading with a Basic Gray Watercolour Pencil and blend with a Wink of Stella Glitter pen
  • Fussy cut one of the images and cut out just three of the flowers from the second image
  • Shape the flowers and add to the card using Stampin Dimensionals
  • Stamp the sentiment in Memento Ink onto a scrap of Basic White and trim down to a narrow strip. **
  • Attach to the card with a narrow strip of Stampin Dimensional cut from the edge of the pad.
  • Finish with some Brushed Brass Butterflies

** had I been at home I might have heat embossed the sentiment in White onto a strip of Basic Black card.

Monochromatic Birthday Card Measurements

  • Base: Basic White– 29.7 cm by 10.5 cm scored and burnished at 14.9 cm
  • First Layer: Basic White – 14.5 cm by 10.2 cm
  • Second Layer: Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper – 10.2 cm by 2.0 cm
  • Images: Basic White- 14,9 m by 10.5 cm
  • Sentiment: Basic White – Scrap

Voila!
