Creativity Abounds Blog Hop
This month we are sharing projects which share a technique. There are so many different options to pick, but I settled on paper piecing. Its a technique I haven’t ‘played’ with for a while & as you will see below I had lots of fun playing!
I chose to use the beautiful Enduring Beauty Bundle as the basis of my techniques.
It has large flowers and foliage perfect for this type of technique.
What is paper Piecing
Paper piecing is the art of using a pattern to cut parts of a picture out of different colours and patterns of paper. You then reassemble them with glue into the whole picture. This is similar to applique in quilting.
Paper Piecing On Floral Cards
For me the perfect medium for this technique is our fabulous selection of Designer Series Paper (DSP).
I started with some Perennial Lavender DSP and I love the way this card has turned out. What do you think?
- Heat emboss the image in white on two different patterns, one green and one floral.
- Die cut out the green image to firm the base
- Fussy cut out the flowers from the second image and adhere to the green image
- Add to the card base using Dimensionals
How simple and effective is that?
Card – Measurements
- Base (Crumb Cake): 21.0 cm x 14.5 cm
- First Layer (Pretty Peacock): 10.2 cm x 14.5 cm
- Second Layer ( Perennial Lavender DSP): 9.9 cm x 14.2 cm
- Sentiment (Lost Lagoon); Scrap
Paper Piecing- Other ideas
How about a monochromatic scheme using both sides of some Glorious Gingham Pecan Pie DSP?
How about trying two different colours of Glorious Gingham Berry Burst & Lemon Lime Twist?
If fussy cutting is not your thing, how about trying a lovely strippy strip paper piecing background?
Or why not combine both options for a wonderful mix of Gold, White & Pebbled Path?
This really packs a wow!
Voila!
