How To Make A Queen Bee Pop Up Birthday Card – Casually Crafting Blog Hop

Dec 17, 2022 | Birthdays, Blog Hop

Welcome to our monthly Casually Crafting Blog Hop! and my Queen Bee Pop Up Birthday Card.

Casually Crafting Design Team Blog Hop

The Casually Crafting Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world, gathered together to share our passion for creativity with you. Our focus is to bring you inspiration featuring projects that are easy to create while still packing a powerful creative punch. The projects are made with a few products, making them ideally suited to a beginner or casual crafter. From time-to-time, we may also include a project that is stepped-up for the added wow-factor

We will be sharing our ideas on the 3rd Saturday of each month and you can hop around the group and gather loads of inspiration. So grab yourself a cup of your favourite beverage, sit back & enjoy the hop!

Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge

This month we have a Tic Tac Toe challenge. Have you tried one? Pick a line horizontally, vertically or diagonally and use those elements to make your project. Don’t worry you can use other products, but these challenges are great for kickstarting a crafting session.

I chose to use the top line – Cue – Fun Fold – Ribbon & I can’t wait to see what the other designers have chosen.

Make your own Alcohol Blended Background

I love making my own backgrounds and this is such a fun way to create a bright unique pattern.

Take the piece of vellum and scribble different colours of Stampin’ Blends over the back of the piece. I used both light and dark Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie

Use a spritzer to spray Isopropyl Alcohol over the colour until the colours start to move. Use a heat gun to dry the ink and there you go!

IMPORTANT: make sure you are in a well ventilated area and don’t stand over the vellum when heating as the alcohol may give you a headache. Alternatively you can let the piece dry in a warm area

If you are not happy with the results just repeat the process until you are happy.

Alternative Stamp!

The lovely circles have been created with a piece of bubble wrap – I have loads in the house right now due to all the Christmas present deliveries. Just rip a corner away, cover in Versamark ink and press lightly onto the front of the vellum as you would if your were using a stamp.

Cover with Gold Embossing powder and melt with a heat gun.

Its such an amazing effect.

Dab glue on the back of the vellum where there are solid embossed circles and adhere to a piece of Basic White card

By dabbing the glue behind the circles it won’t show on the front of the card. Alternatively you could use a piece of adhesive sheet cut to the same size as the vellum.

Don’t worry of all the circles don’t ‘stamp’ perfectly its all adds to the effect!

Sneaky Peak!

The cute bee is from the Queen Bee stamp set which is from the upcoming January Mini Catalogue.

Heat emboss in gold and fussy cut out. – there are dies to match the outline, but its super simple to just cut out with snips.

Colour with Stamping Blends

Heat emboss the sentiment in White on a scrap of Basic black card and trim to fit.

Add a double loop of Gingham ribbon behind the bee and finish with some Matte Black dots

Inside the Card

Now for the surprise!

The pop up element has been created by cutting folding the inner in half and cutting two slits in the fold about 3 cm in and 5cm long on each side.

Fold the central piece in the opposite direction to the middle score line and glue inside the card. Simple but very effective.

Voila!

I had great fun making this card. So, please do leave me a comment, letting me know what you think.

If you would like to know more about any of my projects please do get in contact and I would be happy to help you

So now it’s time to hop around the rest of the wonderful demonstrators blogs to see some more inspiration
