Welcome to the Crafty Collaborations Multicultural Day blog hop. I am part of an amazing group of demonstrators from all around the world. We love showcasing the wonderful products which can found in our suite of catalogues. Today we are celebrating VACATIONS! and I wanted to make a one layer masked diorama beach card.
Timeless Tropical
Who needs a holiday right now? I certainly do, but thankfully, I don’t have too long to wait as we are heading away for a week in the Peak District (National Park in the UK) in 10 days time. With all the travel restrictions at the moment, I have a feeling it is going to be some time before I get to sit on a tropical beach sipping cocktails. Oh well in the meantime a girl can dream!
The Timeless Tropical Stamp Set certainly has a vacation feel to it, and I knew I wanted to use it as soon as I saw the theme. It has a beautiful sketched feel and the font is so pretty. It has a south pacific vibe about it.
What do you mean by Masked?
Today I am using a creative masking technique. If you are new to Stamping or are not sure what this technique is then I am here to show you how it can really add depth to your cards.
Basically, you take a select piece of medium and use it to cover up areas of your card front. You then go back in with your ink blending tools or stamping to add colour. Once you remove the masks you are left with lovely areas of clean card, which have been untouched by the ink. Its a really fun look.
There are so many different ways you can mask. You can use Masking or Washi Tape, Post it note, card stock, stencils, dies & die cut or punched materials. I’m sure there are more and if you have any tips do let me know.
Masked Diorama Beach Card
As I mentioned I had this idea for a card as soon as saw the theme. It’s so fun to make, but is not complicated either.
How to make this Masked Diorama Beach Card
- Take a piece of vellum & cut out the diorama shape
- Tape the vellum on top of the card base and add a couple of pieces of repositionable tape to hold it in place.
- Add a piece of tape across the middle of the aperture to create a horizon.
- Add Balmy Blue ink with a blending brush TIP: Build the colour up gently so you get a nice even finish
- Move the tape up to cover the bottom of the sky.
- Repeat the process with a little Sahara Sand for the beach & Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana Ink for the sea.
- Stamp the palm trees in Old Olive and Soft Suede.
- Add some Wink of Stella to the sea to re-create the wonderful glimmer you get on a tropical beach
- Remove the mask and stamp the sentiment in Soft Suede
- To finish add some Gold Metallic pearls
Masked Diorama Beach Card Measurements
- Card Base: Basic White – 29.7 cm by 10.5 cm scored at 14.9 cm to form the base
- Vellum for mask: 15.0 cm by 11.0 cm
- Yep that’s it!!
Voila!
