Welcome to the Crafty Collaborations blog hop. I am part of an amazing group of demonstrators from all around the world. We love showcasing the wonderful products which can found in our suite of catalogues. This month we are looking at different techniques for using Embossing Folders aka Pressure embossing. There are quite a few different techniques which I am sure you will discover today. I chose to use some window sheet/Acetate for my Art In Bloom embossed acetate card
What is pressure embossing?
Embossing is a great technique that adds texture and dimension to your cards, and other papercraft projects. Embossing is the process of generating a three-dimensional image or pattern on a surface through the use of pressure, generally through the use of embossing folders and a Cut & Emboss machine . Debossing is the opposite process and it creates a recessed image that is sunken on the paper/card surface.
Art In Bloom
The new Art In Bloom bundle is amazing! When I first saw it in the new catalogue, I thought it was just another floral image with dies. Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE floral images. In fact, I’ve loved flowers my whole life and when I’m not stamping or working my other businesses, you can usually find me in my garden. So, what makes this so amazing? The stamps, dies, and embossing folder coordinate beautifully!
WHAT IS A HYBRID EMBOSSING FOLDER?
What make the bundle so amazing is the hybrid embossing folder, Well, first is contains dies and an embossing folder – two in one. And, to make it better, you can emboss and cut the image at the same time. It produces amazing texture on the die cut! You can see a project I made using this technique here
I didn’t use the Hybrid Embossing folder for todays technique, but I have a feeling I might try it out again very soon!
Now I have to be honest, when I made this card I didn’t think about how I was going to photograph the shiny reflective acetate/window sheet so you could see the effect Doh!! Plus add to that. my window to capture the images was restricted to one very sunny late afternoon…..typical! The result is therefore a little dark, but hopefully you get the idea.
How to Emboss on Acetate
Pressure embossing on acetate is not really any different to performing the same task with paper or card, with one notable exception. You can usually run a piece of card though the embossing machine again if its not straight. However you can’t do that with window sheet/Acetate. So its worth taking the time to line up and even add a little tape to ensure that slippery sheet doesn’t move.
I added a piece of Basic white cardstock at the same time: Firstly to create an additional shim & secondly to use behind the acetate to create additional texture and detail.
TIP: Cut the acetate slight longer than the card so you can attach it behind the embossed white card for a seamless look
Did you know you can colour acetate with Stampin’ Blends?
I added Granny Apple Green and Polished Pink Stampin Blends to the ‘inside’ of the sheet.
TIP: build up the layers of colour gradually to avoid over saturation of colour
You can also try this technique with vellum, which will give you a more translucent effect.
finish your Art In Bloom embossed Acetate Card
Attach the acetate to the underside off the embossed layer 1 and then attach tho the card base with glue
Wrap some white bakers twine around the from of the card. not only does it look pretty, but it helps to hold the acetate cover in place….clever eh?
Finally stamp the sentiment in Polished Pink, die cut and attach to the card front using Mini Glue dots
To finish add some 2021-23 In-color jewels
Voila!
I so enjoyed making this card and I would love to know what you think? Please do leave me a comment.
If you would like to know more about any of my projects please do get in contact and I would be happy to help you
