Oct 24, 2024 | Blog Hop, Christmas, Step by step, Techniques

Hello there Crafty friends. Welcome to this month’s Technique Squad Blog Hop. Where each month we share projects using a particular technique. This time we are creating shaker cards and & I am very excited to share my Decorative Tree Shaker Card.

Decorative tree

This week I have been featuring the Decorative Tree bundle on my Connect-Chat-Craft sessions in Facebook.

The images are perfect for quick and easy Christmas cards. The stamp set comes with a a fabulous set of dies, which were key to todays technique.

What Is a Shaker Card

A shaker card is a card with a aperture in the front, which is popped up slightly to create a gap behind it to hold sequins, small beads, or other small items which can be shaken around inside.

Decorative Tree Shaker Card

Today’s card uses the outline die to create the aperture of the shaker card and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it came out.

How To Create A decorative tree shaker card

  • Take your layer backing (LB) and add lines of colour using Stampin Blends
  • Take your piece of Basic white (L1)
    • Die cut the large tree outline
    • Stamp sentiment in Gorgeous Grape
    • On the reverse add tear & tape around the aperture
    • Add window sheet over the gap
    • Add foam strips around the aperture ensuring there are NO gaps
    • Add beads, sequins or mini die cuts
    • Remove strip cover
    • Carefully add layer backing
    • This is your shaker layer
  • Add the shaker layer to the base card using glue
  • Finish with a gold die cut star on top of the tree
