How To Create A Fun Watercolour Embossed Background – Tech 4 Stampers Blog Hop

Jul 12, 2022 | All Occasions, Blog Hop

Welcome to our Tech 4 Stampers blog hop. I am part of an amazing group of demonstrators from around the world who are part of a Tech Academy run by the amazing Louise Sims. Her Website School and Tech Academy helps Stampin Up Demonstrators navigate their way around the world of websites and social media. Now many of us have our websites up and running, a blog hop seemed the next logical step. This month the theme is SUMMER FUN, and I though I would share a couple of bright sunshine style cards using a fun Watercolour Embossed Background Technique.

Who doesn’t like summer in the UK? The days are longer, brighter and my garden just springs to life. I love flowers and have spend many years cultivating lots of insect friendly plants. So when this theme came up I instantly thought about the bees buzzing around in the garden in the sunshine and grabbed my Honeybee Home Stamp set.

It’s just such a pretty set and has some beautiful delicate coordinating dies.

Watercolour Embossed Background with Honeybee Home

July is Watercolour Month & I recently came across this lovely technique for a water coloured embossed background and thought it would be fun to try it out on my recent Facebook Live.

It’s such a lovely technique :

Colour your base, in this case Fluid 100 Watercolour paper. Wet the watercolour card first to help the colours blend. You can dry the card with a heat gun and add more colour, dipping the card into ink or adding additional layers of colour with the ‘smooshing’ technique and acetate dipped in watered down ink and dabbed onto the card (you can see all these ideas and techniques on the Facebook Live)

You can also add splatters of ink, Stampin Write Markers or Stampin Blends. Whatever adds additional texture and detail.

Once dry run the dry card through a deep 3D Embossing folder. I chose the beautiful Hive 3D Embossing Folder. NB made sure the hexagonal elements were debossed on the front so plenty of detail is revealed in the debossed areas.

Next take a Tuxedo Black Memento Ink pad (TIP: make sure its not too juicy/recently re-inked) & lightly run the pad over the top of the card. The raised edges capture the ink and really start to pop. Again try not to touch the wet areas as you apply the ink to avoid smudging, but repeat the process until the raised areas are crisp and solid black.

For this card the watercolour card was cut in half and popped up on some Mango Melody card. The base card is randomly stamped with one of the bee stamps in Smoky Slate ink and the card is finished with some die cuts and some Gingham Ribbon.

Watercolour Embossed Background – Alternate

Sometimes the thought of using a water colouring technique can be a little daunting so I also made this background with Inks, Blending brushes and Shimmery White cardstock to show that you can get equally stunning results without the need for water!

I did cheat a little and added a few water splatter to lift some of the ombre colour, but you could easily leave this step out if you wished.

The flowers have been stamped in Memento Ink onto Basic White Card and coloured with blends, I added some bright pinks and greens to lift the scheme.

Voila!

I so enjoyed making these cards and I would love to know what you think? Which one is your favourite? Please do leave me a comment.

If you would like to know more about any of my projects please do get in contact and I would be happy to help you

So now it’s time to hop around the rest of the wonderful demonstrators blogs to see some more inspiration for using these wonderful patterned papers
