Online Card and a Cuppa – Scrappy Strip Technique

Apr 23, 2020 | Card Ideas, Techniques, Thank you

Today I want to share with you the projects that I made on yesterdays’s Online card and a cuppa. If you missed it you can watch the event here.

I go live with two projects every Monday and Wednesday at 11.00 am BST I would love you to join me so don’t forget to like my page and tune in next week. You can find me here

So yesterday I showed you how I made the spotlight card on the left, which was inspired by a quiz question regarding Schindlers list! Yes! My mind really does work in some strange ways at times. But I just loved the thought of making cards with black, grey and just a pop of red and these are what I came up with

For this card I was inspired by a support demonstrator Bruno Bertucci, who had made some cards based on a piece of art he had purchased and called it a Scrappy strip technique. I thought it would work really well with this colour combination.

Scrappy Strip Technique

The base card is made with a piece of thick whisper white cut at 21.0cm by 20.0cm and scored at 10cm to form a DL card. I then added a piece of Basic black card stock measuring 9.5cm by 20.5cm and stuck that to the base using Tombow glue.

I took four pieces of card stock Basic Black, Basic Grey, Smoky Slate & Poppy Parade, that all measured 9cm by 9cm. Using my trimmer I cut strips that measured 1cm at the top tapering to 0.5cm at the bottom. you need about 6 of each of the colour apart from the Poppy Parade where you will just need one. Its worth watching my video to see how its done as its quite hard to explain, but so easy once you have seen it. I then took a piece of whisper white card measuring 19.0cm by 8.0 cm and glued each strip to the card using just the grey and black tones and popped the red strip in about 3/4 of the way across. I left a small gap between each strip so the white would show, but you could miss out that step if you prefer. The strips will over hang so don’t worry and you can trim them off with scissors or your trimmer afterwards.

Once complete I stuck it to a piece of Poppy parade card measuring 19.5cm by 8.5cm and popped the whole piece up on the base using foam adhesive strips for speed.

I finished the card by die cutting two thank you’s. One in Basic Back card stock and the other in Silver Foil paper. I glues then down so they were staggered and the created a shiny shadow effect, The sentiment is from the Itty Bitty Birthdays set. I stamped it in Smoky slate ink onto a scrap of Whisper White and stuck it down using mini dimensionals.

I just love the pop of that red strip behind the thanks and keeps the design true to my inspiration……Schindlers List

Voila!

I had great fun making this project and I would love to know what you think? So please do leave me a comment.

Don’t forget I will be back on Monday with two more card makes. If you would like to join me then I will be going live on my Face Book page KISS Kreative – Sara Sayers at 11.00am BST so see you there!!!
