Stampin Up demonstrator – Crafty Little Minx – Mothering Sunday – UK
Today its Mothering Sunday in the UK & Ireland.
In the sixteen century churchgoers in England would worship at their nearest parish or ‘daughter church’. It was considered important for people to return to their home or ‘mother’ church once a year. Mothering Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent, so on this day each year, everyone would visit their ‘mother’ church – the main church or cathedral.
Most historians think that it was the return to the ‘Mother’ church which led to the tradition of children, particularly those working as domestic servants, or as apprentices, being given the day off to visit their mother and family. As they walked along the country lanes, children would pick wild flowers or violets to take to church or give to their mother as a small gift.
Nowadays the occasion is more often called Mothers’ Day and as with the American tradition has become an occasion for honouring the mothers of children and giving them presents.
So today’s card that we made in class last week honours all mother’s. The card on the right features the lovely Glimmer card that is free during Sale-a-bration with an order of £45 (whilst stocks last as this has been flying out the door!)
I hope where ever you are you are having a fabulous day.
Catch you soon
